Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs): A Brief Overview
JNVs are a chain of schools initiated by the Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 1986. These schools aim to provide quality education to gifted children from rural areas, irrespective of their socio-economic background. Currently, there are about 661 JNVs spread across the country, imparting education to talented students and shaping them into future leaders.
JNV Class 6 Eligibility: A Comprehensive Guide
To ensure fair opportunities for all students, JNVs have a well-defined eligibility criterion for admission to Class 6. Below, we outline the key aspects of JNV Class 6 Eligibility:
1. Age Criteria: A candidate seeking admission to Class 6 in a JNV must be between the ages of 10 and 12 years as of 30th April of the admission year. This age limit is strictly adhered to, and no relaxation is granted under any circumstances.
2. Education Background: The applicant must be studying in Class 5 for the whole academic year in a government/government-aided or other recognised school in the same district where the JNV is located. This ensures that the child has a solid academic foundation before joining a JNV.
3. Rural Quota: To maintain the focus on providing quality education to rural children, 75% of the seats in a JNV are reserved for students from rural areas. The rural area eligibility is determined based on the child’s school location and the area’s classification by the Government of India.
4. Reservation for Various Categories: JNVs follow the reservation policy laid down by the Government of India. The seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates in proportion to their population in the concerned district, subject to a minimum of the national average. Additionally, a minimum of one-third of the total seats are reserved for girl students.
5. Admission through Selection Test: A candidate must qualify for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) to secure admission to Class 6 in a JNV. The JNVST is a competitive exam designed to test the child’s mental ability, reasoning skills, and arithmetic abilities.
6. One-Time Admission: A student can only be admitted to Class 6 in a JNV once. If a candidate does not qualify for the selection test or declines the offered seat, they cannot apply for admission to Class 6 in a JNV again.
How to Apply for JNV Class 6 Admission?: JNV Class 6 Eligibility
The application submission procedure for the JNV Selection Test has been streamlined through an online process. Registration is free and can be done via the NVS admission portal at https://navodaya.gov.in.
Candidates/parents must review the notification cum prospectus to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria.
Prepare the following soft-copy documents (.JPG format, 10 to 100 kb) for registration:
• Head Master-verified certificate with candidate details in the prescribed format
• Photograph
• Parent signature
• Candidate signature
• Aadhaar details/Residence certificate from a competent government authority
Enter basic candidate information, such as state, district, block, Aadhaar number, etc., into the application portal. Refer to the procedure outlined in section 4.7 of the prospectus.
Eligible candidates must complete the online form and upload the verified certificate, photograph, and signatures of the candidate and parent. The school Head Master will verify the information provided in the certificate for class V students. Upload the certificate as a jpg file between 10-100 kb in size.
NIOS candidates must obtain a ‘B’ certificate and reside in the same district where they are seeking admission.
The online platform is open-source and free. Applications can be submitted from any device, including desktops, laptops, mobiles, and tablets.
Help desks at all JNVs will assist candidates/parents in uploading applications at no cost. Parents can visit the help desk with the candidate, required documents, and a mobile phone with a valid, active number to receive OTP, registration number, and password via SMS for the registration process.
Provide accurate information on the portal, which will be verified during admission with supporting documents.
As online data is being captured, fill out the application form carefully. If discrepancies arise between the form and the attached certificate, the information in the online form will be considered final for further processing.
